Interesting that you should quote David. I have read the entire book with much attention - do it too - and you will quickly realize that David probably was bipolar, bipolar 1 to be exact. He clearly cycles from the most abject depressive state to illusions of grandeur and divinity - that's mania.
So I would call David's tribulations fascinating, yes, but inspirational, I don't know; mania or hypo mania sure can feel good, but hardly qualify as a desirable counterpoint or cure to depression. Give me Buddha's equanimity instead. Stephane.
*** Thanks Stephane for your interesting insight. When I read David's writings and follow his life, I see that even though he constantly screwed up - adultery, murder.. God turned his ashes into beauty. Yay for God's redemption! Even though we are broken vessels, we can be redeemed. So, I focus not on David but on what God did with him- despite his imperfection. That gives me hope!
