Jun 10, 2008, Can You Declutter Depression Away?

In our recent newsletter, I shared about a grass-roots movement in which folks are pledging to whittle down their possessions to a mere 100 items.

Here's a sample quote...

"If you think about it, the reasons why a lot of people buy stuff are exactly the same reasons why a lot of people run out and eat inappropriate food—to make themselves feel better," he says. "The parallels are amazing. Our homes, heads and hips are connected." At the end of the day, experts agree that there are many different types of clutter, and they all rob us of peace and harmony. So look at the vision that you have for your life and then ask does keeping this item — whether it be a chair, vase or eclair — help me get there."

If you plan to join the challenge, tell me about it and then share with me how the journey goes and how it affects your state of mind!

May 23, 2008, To Relieve Depression, Burn Incense!

Religious leaders have contended for thousands of year that burning incense is good for the soul. Now, biologists have learned that it is good for our brains too.

In a new study an international team of scientists have discovered how burning frankincense (resin from the Boswellia plant) activates poorly understood ion channels in the brain that alleviate anxiety or depression.

So, get out some incense and give it a try!

Apr 23, 2008, "Are You Used and Abused?: Emotional Abuse and Depression"

As you may know, lately I've been enjoying reading Dr. Gregory Jantz's books. He gave me about 7 of his books after having a discussion with him at a conference over a year ago. He operates a depression recovery centre in Washington where people fly from all over the world to attend.

Right now I'm reading, "Healing the Scars of Emotional Abuse" and am discovering that many of his patients who come in suffering from depression, experienced freedom after they discovered they were victims of emotional abuse either from childhood or in a current relationship and then after they learned how to say 'no' to the abuse or to forgive the past abuser and reprogram their thinking.

Emotional abuse and depression are closely connected. Unfortunately emotional abuse is sometimes harder to detect in our lives than physical abuse obviously can be. After going through his book myself, I discovered a few things I suffered from fellow classmates growing up. The old saying "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" is so untrue. Words are permanent.

You too may be suffering from emotional abuse and depression. Dr. Jantz writes, "Your emotions don't operate within a vacuum. The emotional delivery system is chemical - and body-based. What your mind feels, your body experiences... Reclaiming your personal power means learning to say yes to yourself when needed and no to others when warranted."

"Healing the Scars of Emotional Abuse" is an excellent book to help you to understand the abuse you have experienced and how to get beyond the effect of the abuse which is your depression.

If you'd like to read his book, you can find it on Amazon.com and simply search for "Healing the Scars of Emotional Abuse".

I noticed that some of Dr. Jantz's techniques are the ones we share in our report in chapter 4. I also recently came across the following excellent article on forgiveness...How to Forgive the Unforgivable. If you've read my book, you'd think I wrote this article too! But, I didn't. It is a wiki article so it could change (my disclaimer).

But, this I can say I wrote... Here I've compiled everything for you that worked for me and for thousands of others.

There is hope! You are worth it!

What’s the connection with Clutter and Depression?

Apr 11, 2008, Simple things you can say to yourself...

In step 4 of our report, we shared how powerful your self-talk is. It has been scientifically measured that what you say to yourself will determine how you live your life, and that even includes your mental health!

Make a list of the kinds of things you say to yourself. What kinds of things do you say out loud? What kinds of statements do you say in your thoughts?

You may say things such as...

I can't do this job, it's too hard.

I'm always late, that's just how I am. Better late than never.

I'm too shy to talk to him.

I'll never find a career I love.

I'll never fall in love.

You fill in the blank...

Now, take some time to write down some of the statements you WANT to start making about yourself. For example...

I don't like this job but if I take one step at a time, I can do it. All I need is some music or something to make it fun.

I've been late in the past, but I'm going to start planning ahead to be on time.

I may be nervous to talk to him but I'm going to. He's just a human like me.

The career I'd love to have is... So, I'm going to start research on how to get there!

I'm going to start reaching out and loving those around me and loving myself before I look to fall in love.

After you've written down your negative statements, turn them into positive ones!

After a week of saying the positive ones OUT LOUD, write me and tell me how this affected you.

Here I've compiled everything for you that worked for me and for thousands of others.

Mar 18, 2008, Paint Like a Famous Depression Sufferer But With Hope!

Abstract painter Jackson Pollock was well known for his drip paintings of the 50s. His nickname was 'Jack the Dripper' because of his dripping technique.

Despite the fame, though, his life was plagued by alcoholic rages, self-hatred and manic-depression, all of which ultimately brought him down.

His wife stood by him, tending to his life outside the realm of painting. She had entered the marriage knowing full well Pollock's erratic, and sometimes violent tendencies. Nonetheless, she supported him, helped him, and encouraged him to release himself to his art and avoid the drink.

However by 1955, he stopped painting altogether when the alcohol and depression got the better of him.

Unlike Pollock, you can allow your creativity to come forward without depression taking hold. Thanks to the latest research, you have a chance to move forward like I have.

Let your creativity come forward by visiting www.jacksonpollock.org and pick up where he left off. Simply press any key to start and paint with your mouse! You may just end up with a masterpiece.

Sources say Jackson painted to his favourite Jazz music. So, feel free to put on your favourite tunes - happy ones and paint away!

Mar 13, 2008, "The Latest Problems With Antidepressants"

My Medical Journal Newsfeeds are all abuzz with the ‘latest findings’ on anti depressants. Truthfully, they’re not the latest findings but for some reason finally the media is taking notice and spreading the word. The word is out in the public that antidepressants are no better than a sugar pill and are being over prescribed. I am hoping that this will encourage doctors to sit up and take notice and truly investigate the studies before prescribing an antidepressant to just anyone.

I just posted a video on my anti depression drug page from the media which shares this message that has had its volume recently cranked up a notch…

So, if you’re doctor has prescribed you an antidepressant without asking you about your eating and exercise habits, that’s cause for serious questioning. Ask her why she hasn’t asked about your life style habits before prescribing medication which quite possibly can make you feel worse with thoughts of suicide.

If you are on medication, don’t suddenly stop taking it. But, do indeed question your doctor thoroughly about the research we share in our course!

Download our Handbook to start you on the road to joy with practical steps you can start today.

There is hope! You are worth it!
